Storm....What Storm????

This is the first day of storms...not bad.
This is only sleet no snow...then about 1/2" of ice.
Second day more sleet and ice to deepen the pile.
Then the snow plows....I walked out to the mailbox and the
top of the box came to my waist.....I didn't even fall through
the big pile left by the street crews.
Then DS calls from Michigan, his friend has a guy shovelling out his drive down the street call and see if he would do mine. LOL I have no cash on hand....Maybe? he will take me to ATM so I can pay for the work.....OK....Yipeee. So here is Mike working hard to get my drive cleaned up....asked if I could take a picture for my Blog and he posed for me...to funny... THEN TAH DAH ...All Done. But work called and I am not to report until Thurs at 11:00PM ....No work for 3 days.....Yeow!!!
Oh and then all day we have had snow. I think I will make veggie soup and call it a day..

Last and First Old out New in

How is everyone on this nice gray day in the Midwest. I am going to show a few things I did at the end of 2010. My last project of the year was this little table runner for my daughter. She had these four M&M fabrics and asked if there was anything I could make out of them.
I came to visit her for Christmas(bringing no quilting supplies so of course had to make a quick trip to JoAnn's) Now, whenever I am there only need fabric and patterns. I'm all set to start...what to do what to do..
I decided to fussy cut the little Christmas M&M characters and set on point and use the all over print for square in square. Then the green for setting tri's and used the large M&M for backing.
It came out to 9"by30". As you can see just right for her little table which is in the M&M room. She was very glad to have something made from her Ebay find.


I had planned on making her another project when I went out knowing she had a sewing machine. I had a pattern from A Legacy of Stitches blog.... a wonderful candle mat for her dining room table.I think it turned out rather nicely. This is before quilting and binding. So, this is my 1st finish of the New Year 2011.

Happy New Year

I want to wish everyone the BEST of a New Year. 2011 HERE WE COME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see Judy L is doing a UFO Challenge to finish up some old(er) projects sitting around taking up that so much needed space in a sewing room(closets,under beds,shelves). Sounds like this is something I need to get into and ssssoooonnn.
I'm not at home, still on vacation at my daughters in Virginia and not leaving until later today to fly back to Indiana... at that time I think I shall bring out 12 from my 150 (UFO, FIU's, Phd's, PIG's,etc). I think I will start with the oldest to the newest. But, I am only going to do for that month projects that need:
1.) Binding
2.) Quilted
3.) Borders
4.) Sashing and Borders
5.) Rows,sashing and Borders
6.) Blocks completed, etc
7.) Children charity (7) need binding
8.) Table runners (3 Christmas, 2 Halloween,3 Summer, 1 Fall)
9.) Applique ( Pat Sloan's Meadow Breeze)
10.) 1st thing that is in my reach when the number is pulled
11.) Embroidery blocks that are hanging around
12.) Finish It Up!!!!!
Lets make this a very productive year and clean up THE ARK

New York New York

Boy, have I got a lot to say. On Tuesday the 28th we boarded the VRE and headed to Washington D.C. to take the Amtrak to New York. My very first train ride and 1st time to the Big Apple. This only 2 days after they had a BLIZZARD. Must have been 10-12 inches of snow with the white stuff piled as high as the cars but, the sidewalks were very passable compared to the crossover points. The puddles that you have to step thru to cross the street were at least 4-5 inches deep. The white stuff was melting fast as the temperature was in the mid forties by late afternoon. My youngest daughter was thinking of NYU for grad school..I don't think so much now. We were at Times Square and Penn station at midnight so crowded. More to tell later when can get pictures uploaded.
This has been a wonderful experience and very glad my daughters invited me to go.
Two less things on my Bucket List. Oh wait..... I MADE it to The City Quilter and picked up some New York fabric to make a table runner or memory photo quilt.

Happy Thanksgiving

Hope everyone is having a Great Turkey Day.
My happy little family is all spread out this day.
Some are in Virginia, some are visiting in-laws and
others are in Michigan. So for today it is my daddy and me. We are having small turkey breast with dressing and of course mashed tators with green beans and coleslaw with a couple deviled eggs and pumpkin pie for dessert.

This little turkey was a place mat I picked up K-mart a couple years ago. Thought we was mighty cute.
Have a Blessed day with Family and Friends.
Now on to the rest of the chores and finished with the cooking.

Happy Birthday Son

Just so my DS doesn't feel left out on any birthday post. This is my son when he was 5yrs. with his sister just before he gets on the airplane to head to Arizona with is grandpa to visit his great grandpa. The 1st time away from home and 1st plane ride. This was over Easter holiday and they made sure the Easter Bunny didn't forget him. He's an electrical engineer now and lives in another state. Love you son.

While I've been Gone.

Boy, didn't think I would be away so long.Changes at work and helping the kids out can really take more time away from the computer. I have had 4 deaths in the friend category with another Saturday morning . This is on my ex-husbands side of the family only 57 years old. She had been sick for many years with many struggles as she was also the care giver to the grandpa(ex-father-in-law). Thought I would post some pictures of whats been happening in the last few months and get caught up with a few things in Blogland.
OK First these 3 pictures are from our county fair in Aug. Great day all day then when we get there not even 10 minutes and the skyes let loose. We ran to the indoor arena for 4-H shows and waited about 20 min to have the rain stop as fast as it started. The rain soaked into the ground so fast that we did not get muddy or stay wet to long as we dried pretty quickly.




A woman in the quilt guild I belong to was diagnosed with breast cancer so some of ladies got together to make a quilt and someone volunteered to quilt it and then someone else put the binding on (love the ladies in the guild). When all was completed I live just down the street so I took this beautiful quilt over to her and we went out to her deck to get this lovely photo. She prefers to go without wigs and I think she is adorable. She is doing very well and has not missed even one day of work. So proud of her and the strength she is showing everyone. Never Give Up.

Then 9-11 came and I had made this little wall-hanging back then in a couple days after someone posted this pattern on-line. I hang it every year. Just a reminder to Never Forget.

Then on 9-16 My youngest daughter turned 24yrs young. She had found this fabric at Jo-Ann's and we didn't know what on earth we would make. I had been going through some old quilt magazines and came across a pattern in 1996 Quilt Sampler called Desert Vista by Anne Dutton and Dorothy Dodds only I used the center only as Laura Boehnke had done in her pattern test example. The picture is as it hung on the design wall for 3 weeks. My daughter comes home and doesn't think the center skull piece is centered correctly. OH OK then. I looked and looked and finally agreed with her. I go and get another qtr yd and this time I fussy cut the center, square, and not diamond. So the wall hanging is now turned square instead of diamond shape. This is now all pieced and ready for quilting. I will get another picture up soon of the final quilt. You may ask why? did she want skull and roses. Roses are the symbol for her music Fraternity and she is studying Anthropology so this is just her cup of tea :-). She is loving it. Oh, and the reason it is not quilted is because we are making new initiation gowns for the fraternity(18) and the pattern is from the forties. Needless to say I am not a clothes sewer and she barely knows how to sew on a button. We are half done and luckily have until early December to finish. Every weekend we do one or two steps . Soon.. Soon.. I keep saying.



Well then the seasons started to change and one morning I got off work(I work 11:00 to 7:00) I stopped at Cracker Barrel for Breakfast and found ice on the foliage outside their building. I'M NOT READY. Oh, well Mother Nature thinks other wise.

Then this last Saturday I went to the Fort Wayne Art Museum to see this:
My daughter standing beside her painting. It was chosen by sending in a digital photo. She is so very talented and gifted in the arts. She has made some very impressive pieces and sold several. This painting is gifted to her brother and his wife as it is a painting of their driveway. We are all hoping for a seasonal grouping, but alas she has taken on a a part-time job and has found out she is 9 week s pregnant. Yahoo!!!!!

This is plenty for now and not even close to what I wanted to say. I am going to get better at this one way or another. I still have so much to learn about writing a blog and posting the pictures. I never seem to get them just like I want them to appear. End up getting frustrated and quit never go back. That is gonna change. I have so much to say show. So until we meet again.......
